Prototyping after Feedback

Prototype: Storyboard (from a user perspective)

Prototype: Paper based

Concept

Massey app can be based around making it simple for students (catering student needs) to keep track of notifications, events, schedule and timeline while also having the capability to message other peers or tutors and find classrooms using the way-finding system.

Information and notifications of classes. (email’s, messages, updates, exibitions)

keep students up to date with information given out by lecturers. If there are sudden alerts such as class changes or cancelled meetings, the lecturers can easily send out a notification to the students. A suggestion from user-testing was to possibly show a time reminder before a class starts (roughly around 5 minutes).
Our survey received 100% student mobile users as it is portable and they always have it on them. So it will be easier to check updates on an app rather than email or through stream. After our user-testing, we received feedback that students are sometimes reluctant to check stream because they weren't near a computer or it's a hassle to log in. Because of this, students sometime misses out on important notifications by tutors.

Events

news based around massey as well as the city that might be of interest for student learning. Can be created by students or campus groups e.g. MAWASA. Since one of our limitations was that technology limits face to face interactions, an event section may encourage students to participate and meet new people. There could be a counter to show how many students are attending and possibly who is going so it motivates their friends to do the same.

Messaging option?

To quickly email a tutor, peers or group. Maybe there should be a section/divider or contact list so it is easier to forward an email without the hassle of finding the person every time.
It will also be helpful for tutors to have all the messages be sort out automatically for different classes, and they can focus on replying to more important/urgent ones. (filtering system using sections/dividers).

In our user-testing a few students mention about the current stream login issue. They had to walk all the way to the library to ask about the issue, only to find out they had to simply change their password, wasting time and also not being able to log in stream for that period. So they suggest a messaging system within the app would be helpful as it is less time consuming and also if students are sending regular messages about the issues then the librarian could send out a notification to everyone, solving issues quicker.

Messaging can also include emails that we receive currently e.g. job opportunities and events etc. The current system can be somewhat confusing because there have been times where a 3rd year student would receive emails about 4th year stuff, and because of that, students are sometimes more reluctant to check emails because they think it might be for different year groups. On the app there should be a filtering section (profile?) so students will only receive emails/messages for their specific year group.
